Welcome to the Home of the 448th Bomb Group
Well! Where do we start? What a day!
We hoped in advance of Open Day that the intense effort that had been put in by the Committee and many members, would eventually bring back the halcyon days of The Tower and boy did it!
Over 200 visitors enjoyed various activities and options that we had laid on. I know Richard Nash our Chairman had to have his brow dabbed regularly as he toiled to produce our Bomber Burger!
After selling well over 100 burgers during the day the team deserve a big pat on the back!
Vintage motorbikes and a big Harley Davidson created great interest as did the wonderful You Cawn't Miss It plane and US wagon. The drone flyover made for some fascinating photos. Jeep rides were popular with juniors and seniors. The fuel tank was full at the start of day and almost empty at the end....great fun!
Merchandise and refreshment sales were far higher than anticipated adding several hundred pounds to our bank balance which has been severely depleted due to Covid 19.
What was striking was the range of ages present. Thanks go to Gemma for having laid on a craft area for the creative little ones, we were so pleased to see them enjoying themselves and our more senior guests remarked that " it was just like old times" at The Tower.
It was so encouraging to welcome some 15 new members who were able to sign up there and then onto our Membership database - we really thank you all.
The day was a culmination of the previous reputation of fun times at The Tower, forged by Pat Everson and kept alive by the sterling efforts of John Leonard, Barry, John Ford and others.
The present Committee extend their warmest thanks to them for the sacrifices made.
We all look forward to seeing you again at our next open day on 1st August. In the mean time keep safe, keep well and tell your friends!
